Case Studies: Mentoring for individual success Who we are

Testimonial from a satisfied client

I have known Malcolm since 2005. Over the past three years, Malcolm has coached me at two levels - firstly in a technical role with his expertise in M&A transactions and secondly at a personal level.

The first process was insightful as this is Malcolm’s background and he is very experienced in this area. From me with the sale of my company predicted it was essential to be able to prepare in advance for all eventualities with my CFO hat on. This built my confidence and sustained me through an exciting and busy period. The conclusion was to sell the company to a competitor at an excellent price and for me to work through into transitioning into the new owner and finally on to pastures new.

The second process on the coaching/mentoring side includes several stages:

The opening stage is generating background information from the sponsor &/or the individual about what is the current situation of the person and where s/he wants to go next. I met with Malcolm in what I term a “chemistry” meeting to ensure that both parties are going to be happy working with each other.

From there it is extremely important to agree objectives. For me, the key objective is to enable me to get to where I want to be in my professional/ personal live.

The process, therefore, has three key stages:

  1. receiving information on the individual from the company’s records (CV data etc)
  1. The individual answering a short questionnaire about the process that they are about to embark on – what their expectations are, how they feel about it etc
  1. Completing a profile to align one’s energies in the same direction and to enhance one’s own performance

Initially these meetings would have a pattern to them - discussing business issues and "putting them away" and then answering structured questions to start the process of creating your purpose

Malcolm has a passion for helping people and a non-judgemental but guiding manner to bring you to a better place in handling difficult and complex issues. Once he has gained your trust it is quite enlightening to understand how to change your approach to keep you aligned with your purpose which lead to maximise results from work/home.

Tools such as meditating on your purpose are helpful but for me initially limiting in the result. It took a “retreat” day to really examine further the questions posed and discovering my inner self.

I think the retreat was my moment where the “light bulb” was switched on and I was able to contemplate and consider more deeply how to identify my needs, values, passions and beliefs that align behind my purpose.

Individuals will have the experience of being understood in their aspiration, of being stretched and making things happen for themselves. They are usually inspired in generating their future beyond what they thought would have been possible at the outset
